Front trims are regularly wood but counter edge tiles are available if you like that look. Buy adequate lineal footage of edge tile to go end to end of the counter top. If you are using edge tile, these will be the first pieces installed. Edge pieces come in 6", 8" and custom lengths but is not recommended to try and line them up with the countertop tiles. Starting with a ½ tile, install the edge tiles from one end to the other. A hold ledger should be installed under the bottom leg of the tile as a temporary hold until the adhesive dries. Spread some adhesive along side the pencil mark you made for the quadrate line. Spread only a dinky at first until you get used to the time it takes to install the tile and the setting time for the adhesive. You don't want to try and remove dried adhesive. As you place the tile, twist the tile slightly to assure you have full touch with the adhesive below.

Ok, you settled the first 6 tiles. Are the lines straight? Are the tops of the tiles level and even? Are the spaces between the tiles all the same? Once all the grout is installed and wiped clean, you are done. Let the grout dry for at least 24 hours before cleaning the countertop or placing items upon it.

Wall Tile- Wall tile installation is basically the same as a countertop with a few exceptions. Ceramic tile on walls must be installed on either water defiant drywall (green board) but cement backer board is amuch best job. We mentioned the use of tile spacers and this is a good place for them. They will help keep the tile from sliding down, conclusion the grout joint while the adhesive is still wet. Once the adhesive dries, you can pull them out and use them again and again. Layout remains the same as before. In this case you want your cut pieces to be at the floor on top of the baseboard. Cutting-Cutting small pieces of tile is the same as a countertop. Use your tile cutter. Once you encounter an outlet box however, these need a dinky extra work. If you are very lucky the outlet box is between two tile or at the edge of one tile. You can cut the sides of the box using a carbide blade and abrasive or a portable ceramic tile saw. (These are also available at your rental store by the day). Cut the sides first and the score the top of the box mark. Using a pair of quadrate jawed pliers, grip the tile firmly and snap out the piece. Wear Your Gloves And Saftey Glasses! Small chips and milling dust can certainly cause an eye injury. Ok, you broke the tile. Try again. When you get one done the rest will be easy. The cover plate will cover any space colse to the outlet as long as you keep the cut fairly close. Test fit the tile dry. If it fits and the cover will cover the gaps, go ahead and install it. Circles are a dinky harder. These can be made with a abrasive if they are large adequate circles but for small circles a Dremel tool or drill with a carbide drill bit works best. You can drill a series of holes along the line as close together as inherent and then snap out the remaining piece. Using the abrasive or Dremel, grind away any parts that need to be removed to get the concluded opening. Test fit it dry first. These are the basic items you will encounter in a wall project. Grouting is the same as a countertop. Work small areas, be rigorous to remove the haze as you hike and do not wipe out the grout joints. Tiles can also be installed at a diagonal to the walls to make the room appear larger or originate optic interest.

You will use Lots of grout for a floor compared to a countertop. The use of ¾' power drill and grout mixer paddle is recommended but you can hand mix it. It is a lot of hard work. Placement of the grout is the same, work small areas, cleaning the tile as you go and so on. Keep off the concluded tile for at least 24 hours. It may look dry but it is not. Walking on un-dried adhesive can twist a tile out of line and look terrible forever. Chiseling out a hardened tile and resetting it is no fun at all.

Cracked Tile-I will touch on these for a occasion as these styles are advent into use more and more each day. Cracked tile tops are made with bits and pieces of many separate tiles that you have gathered or purchased at your local tile store. If you are creating a picture or obvious pattern, apply your tile adhesive directly onto the piece of tile and then place it. This will keep your layout lines illustrated and allow you stop work whenever you tire. The rest of the installation is the same as other tile work. Work clean and keep your tools clean. Let your work dry well before applying grout.

Mosaic Tile- Mosaic tile comes from the installation glued to an often sized 12" x 18" plastic grid sheet as a base to hold dozens of tile at once. When installing mosaic tile on a floor or wall, this saves hours of labor in that you can set 12" x 18" of tile at once and not have to apply each 1 x1" tile by itself. When doing custom work, you want to install each tile one at a time. The tile will simply snap off the sheet or you may use a razor knife to slice off sections to infill your pattern Possibly 2,10 or 20 pieces at a time. Back in the mid-80s (yikes, was it of course 20 years ago?), I was a young educator working in New Orleans. To earn extra money, I worked part time over the street from my Magazine street apartment, at Pj's Coffee and Tea. Having grown up on instant Maxwell House, I was not the most coffee-savvy drinker in the world.

In the days before Starbucks, before coffee houses became trendy and common, I learned the basics about roasting coffee beans and serving coffee from experts. I learned about coffee's origins, roasting methods, and how to get ready the greatest cup. In my opinion, the best cup of coffee can only be made with a French press, a glass carafe in which you mix ground coffee, boiling water, and use a simple plunger-press device to push the grounds to the bottom when you want to serve the coffee. This is the best way to make coffee because you don't "cook" the coffee as you would in a drip machine. Cooking coffee releases its acidity and makes it bitter. I was so in love with my French press, I used to bring it on camping trips. There's nothing quite like rolling out of your tent in the woods at dawn, wrapping your cold hands colse to a warm cup (not a paper cup, perish the thought!) and sipping moderately as you tend the fire for your morning breakfast.

I might also argue that the cold drip formula is up there with the French press. This formula produces a coffee join that you can keep in your fridge, but it's slow and I believe best noteworthy for iced coffee, which is how I learned it at Pjs.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-drip or anti-percolator. Heavens, no! For large scale convenience, there's nothing like machinery. I own a drip coffee maker and a Krups cappucino/espresso maker and use them frequently. When I'm bolting out the door in the morning, I fill my metal thermal mug (never plastic, ick!) with a dark, rich French roast. If it's a particularly good roast, I drink it black so as not to sully the flavor. If it's mediocre or I'm just in the mood for light coffee, I use Half-and-Half. No sugar in my coffee, thank you. My husband uses skim milk which upsets me to no end because it produces a grayish colored murky coffee I find unappealling. But hey, he likes it and as long as he knows never to use skim milk in My coffee, we're cool.

Now about those flavored coffees...I often take flack for this, but let me say I am vehemently opposed to flavored coffee. Coffee Is a flavor, so adding additional flavor to it is like adding ice cubes and club soda to a pricey bottle of merlot. How would you perhaps appreciate the personality of a bottle of wine if you added extra stuff to it? You'd change the entire personality of something elegant and simple and make it complex and confusing. With coffee, as with many foods and drinks, simplicity is elegant.

Back in my coffee house days, we did not serve flavored coffees. We offered a dark roast, a medium roast, and a water-processed decaf to our customers along with an assortment of fresh baked goods, made from scratch by local bakers. We believed flavored coffees were just wrong because they covered up the true essence and attractiveness of the bean. Plus they weren't favorite then. I know they are favorite now. The rows of syrupy flavors in bottles lined up in some coffee bars are testimony to the popularity of flavored coffee. I'll pass, thank you.

To eat or not to eat with coffee? Again, keep it simple. Toast or an English muffin and a steaming cup of java contain the greatest breakfast. A medium roast in the afternoon with fresh biscotti is heaven. A demi-tasse of dark espresso with the tiniest slice of lemon rubbed colse to the edge of the cup allows me to linger and enjoy the afterglow of a excellent meal.

Ahhh, did I mention shortbread and coffee? all the time appreciated, all the time appropriate, a wedge of Vermont Shortbread with your coffee is the greatest in luxury and pampering. It's probably not something you'd eat every day, but for those times when you want to practice extra self-care, why not enjoy your coffee with the most elegant and simple of all cookies, shortbread?

When food and drink are pure, simple, and flavorful without being contrived, you will want to savor them moderately and purposefully. You will want to sit quietly with your steaming cup and your snack with your eyes moderately complete and allow flavors, aroma, and warmth to dance their slow, sensual dance of relieve and nurturing. And guess what? The world feels a whole lot friendlier when you take the time to enjoy the simple attractiveness in your bean...or in anyone you're eating and drinking.

Because, at the end of the date, when you propose going back to your place -- to have a glass of wine, watch a movie, or anything other Tactic you use from my book -- she Already Knows your environment.

She already Knows that your home is a comfortable place to go back to, and chill out. It's clean, comfortable, and she already knows you're not some horndog who is going to try to jump on top of her the moment she comes in the door. So you take her out for a nice time, you get her back to your place, and that is when the Magic happens...

The Boutique Hotel boss

Boutique Hotel. Just the words get the imagination going. Even before I dog eared the pages of Herbert Ypma's first Hip Hotels book I was fascinated by the world of boutique hotel properties. "How cool would it be to be the normal employer of a cool boutique hotel?" I often found request myself as I flipped straight through the pages of his magnificent photos. Working hard to make a vocation out of the hotel industry, I was convinced that I just had to be complicated with a boutique hotel someday.

That someday came true, when in 2004 I was invited to be the normal employer of what was and still is one of Palm Springs most hip boutique hotels. I left someone else huge chance just to be a part of this fantastic world. The art, the design, the vibe. I had never positively worked everywhere with a "vibe". A year later and I knew, I knew what many in the hotel company do not...what it is positively like to be the gm of a hip, cool boutique hotel. It's not for everyone and fantastic for many.

There is a mini storm brewing in the boutique hotel world, one I don't think most complicated in this commerce are aware of. With more and more boutique hotel operators entering the playground, more and more bad hiring decisions are being made. The right normal Mangers are working at the wrong hotels. Like a quadrate peg and a round hole, some things just do not work. Who is to blame and what can be done?

The Boutique Hotel

First let me first tell you that I have a very narrow view of what positively constitutes a boutique hotel. I think that the term "Boutique" when used to recite a hotel is often misapplied. A boutique hotel is not defined by naturally a hot design, as many would argue.
In my opinion, a boutique hotel is a property that is uniquely critical in four ways:

1. Architecture and Design.

2. A high level of service. A property must not exceed 150 guest rooms, enhancing the guest to staff ratio.

3. Sell to a definite demographic.

4. Are independently owned and operated (this is where some will disagree with me).

A boutique hotel must be an independent operation. The hotel must not be part of a variety that is more than say, 10 properties. Beyond this you get into having a corporate hierarchical management style that is required in running a large company and maintaining brand consistency. Take W Hotels for example. In my belief these are not boutique hotels. They look like a boutique hotel, even feel like one. Many boutique hotels would strive to be as great as a W. But a W Hotel is run and managed by a immense corporation. The property level management makes very few decisions about what services are offered and how the property is run. A boutique hotel must be operated as close to the actual corporeal doing as possible. W's and the like are amazing, but in my belief don't fit the definition of a boutique hotel. Boutique hotels are also enduringly re-inventing themselves, production sure that their fickle guest never get bored and look to stay at the newest new, hip and cool property.

Boutique Hotel Guest

Travelers chose to stay at a boutique hotel because of the story, or the experience. The contact is very foremost and must be unique and somewhat cutting edge. The normal demographics are individuals 20 to 50 years of age, work in more creative fields like advertising or entertainment and appreciate a higher level of service. When Ian Schrager entered the store with what many reconsider to be the first boutique hotel, this demographic discovered that they could use their travel budget get them a room at a cool, hip hotel rather than a generic mid-level branded property. And the boom started.
Boutique hotel guests enjoy experiences, unique architecture, cutting edge interior compose and in some cases an urban location. It is hard to ignore the hype.

Brands vs. Boutiques

Luxury hotel operators are scrambling to avoid losing store share to the boutique world. Some hotels are positively taking the "brand" off their marketing and streamlining their operations so that their properties are positively boutique. Take the Kahala Mandarin Oriental for example. This renowned luxury property recently took Mandarin Oriental away so that they could control and compete in the new marketplace of more independent hotels. They are now naturally "The Kahala" and are working hard to be positively local and independent of a major brand identification. I think others will follow.

The Boutique Hotel normal Manager

For the sake of this publication, I will use the luxury hotel as the comparison to the boutique since most intimately associate a boutique hotel with luxury travel. So what is so dissimilar about being a normal employer at a luxury hotel versus a boutique hotel? Can it positively be that different? The basics are the same. The normal employer is responsible for the whole day to day operation, hiring decisions, marketing, budgets, forecasting, rate strategy, facility maintenance etc... The key for both types of properties is guest aid and guest interaction. The guest at a high end luxury hotel expects to be able to interact with the hotel normal manager, as do the guests at a boutique property. It is all high touch.

The unlikeness is that a boutique hotel normal employer wears just a few more hats than the luxury normal manager. A boutique normal employer might be establishment complicated budget forecasting spreadsheets at 10am and at 10:30 am be clearing the pool towels from around the hotel's salt water plunge. When was the last time you saw the normal employer of the Peninsula Beverly Hills with an arm full of towels? Don't get me wrong, I know that the normal employer of the Peninsula would do this in a second, if they had to. The normal employer of a boutique hotel Has to, because there is nobody else. The one server working the bistro is also probably responsible for taking care of the pool, taking room aid orders, delivering the orders and on and on.... The normal employer of a boutique hotel is sometimes also the Hr director and breaks the front desk agents. If the gm is in California then the gm might find themselves breaking just about every position just to avoid getting sued and fined!

Take this example; you are the Gm of a hot boutique property in the desert. The temperature is pushing 118 degrees. Since occupancy during the summer is very low, you encourage a lot of your team to take their vacations so you can get that vacation accrual off your books. One of those who takes you up on this is your chief engineer, one of two engineers for your whole five acre property. He goes home to the motherland, Germany for a week. Now just because it's hot does not mean that you don't have customers. Some tourists seem to love the heat, and so it was with this particular steamy day in August. As the sun begins to set, your guests make their way from the pool to their bungalows. Dusk and 100 degrees, everyone turns on their aged air conditioners full blast so they can cool down. Your only other engineer has gone home for the day. It is at about this time that the calls start coming in. The ac units are icy up. The old units frost up when they are turned on full blast. Many blow the circuit breakers. So there you are, in your office doing the forecast for your weekly corporate status record call when the front desk calls you in a panic, "the guests are flipping out" cries your new front desk agent. You check out the calls and see that you need your engineer back on property, but his pre-paid cell phone (you cant afford to pay for a cell phone for him) is out of time -you cant reach him! So what do you do? You head to the rooms to see if you can fix them. Room by room you tackle the challenge of explaining to your sweaty and angry guests why they cant turn their ac on full and that it will take at least two hours for the ice built up around the coils to melt. Then you start finding for the circuit breakers, which are scattered all over the 60 year old property. By the time you reach the last room the guest who answers the door almost screams at the sight of the sweaty, dirty normal employer retention a tool box with a dazed look on his face. "Wasn't this the same guy who was pouring us Mimosas at the pool this morning honey?" asks the guest as you begin your repairs. Once the craziness is over you get a call on your cell phone. Yes, it is your engineer returning your call. "You trying to reach me boss?". The next day, while on your consulation call you listen to a speech about how normal managers need to spend more time with their guests rather than in their offices. Duh, you think as you try to scrub the grit out from under your fingernails.

The financial realities of a boutique hotel are unique. The appearance of three to five star aid with a two star budget is the norm, and the gm's get caught in the middle. The boutique hotel just does not have the budget to staff like a true luxury property and everyone has to pull their weight. The gm who does not will not be there long and hate every second of their lives.

Along with the added sweat and discontentment of being a boutique hotel gm are the rewards. For the right individual, they will find that the entrepreneurial management style required of them is highly empowering. The gm can make a lot of decisions on their own, decisions that in a larger corporate hotel would require an approval or worse....committee discussion! The fact that some towels need to be picked up and maybe a drink or two be mixed and served is positively fun to them. The rewards of always being in front of your guests are what most gm's want anyway, but many are not positively ready for it when they are tasked to make that happen every day.

So what kind of someone would do well as a normal employer of a boutique hotel? write back these questions, if you can say yes to each write back then you will probably positively like the challenge. Please note that I am assuming that you are already an experienced employer and distinguished to be a normal manager.

The 51 Questions

1. You do not need routines to feel prosperous at work.

2. You can delegate without concern.

3. You can make decisions without committee recommendation.

4. You can spend long hours at work. By long I mean sometimes up to 14 hours at a time.

5. You have no question spending the night at the property to make sure all is ok.

6. You don't have a question delivering luggage to guest rooms (you probably wont have a bellman to do this for you).

7. You can valet park a car.

8. You can re-program guest keys using the key card system.

9. You positively enjoy speaking with your guests....Really.

10. You can mix a drink and you know who Mr. Boston is.

11. You can run a commercial washing machine.

12. You can re-set a circuit breaker.

13. You can change a flat tire, jump start a car.

14. You can re-set your router. If you don't know what a router is then stop now and re-think any thoughts you have of being a boutique hotel gm. You will not have an on site It employer to help you!

15. You can check in/ out a guest using the front office system.

16. You can process credit cards and split payments to discrete folios.

17. You can run the switchboard at the front desk.

18. You can ring in an order using the restaurants Pos.

19. You can re-set the bistro Pos.

20. You can schedule a digital watch system.

21. You can type your own memos, send your own e-mails and write back your own phones (this should be true of Any gm nowadays).

22. You can jump from one project to the next without hesitation.

23. You know what to do when someone has a heart strike in your lobby.

24. You know what to do when someone chokes in your restaurant.

25. You can explicate your bistro menu items as well or best than your servers.

26. You can brew coffee using a commercial coffee machine.

27. You can draw a good cup of espresso.

28. You know the unlikeness between a latte and a cappuccino.

29. You know the temperature requirements for your walk-in and refrigerators. If you don't know what a walk-in is, stop here and think about your vocation choice.

30. You know what to do when the health inspector shows up. Hint, it is not to grab a handful of cash!

31. You know who to call if your phone principles suddenly stops working.

32. You know how to read the history off an electronic guest room lock.

33. You know how to make a bed as well as your best housekeeper.

34. You know what the ph level should be in your wash rinse.

35. You know how to check the chemicals in you pool and Jacuzzi.

36. You know what the interfaces are for each of your hotel software systems.

37. You know how to get guests online using your wireless internet service.

38. You know the unlikeness between an p&l and a equilibrium sheet.

39. You can run a commercial dishwasher.

40. You know your receivables and payables.

41. You know where your housekeeper buys their supplies.

42. You know local city ordinances as they apply to your property.

43. You can deliver a room aid order.

44. You can clean a bathroom to 5 star standards.

45. You can fold a towel like your housekeepers.

46. You know where the water and gas mains are, and how to shut them off.

47. You know each of your guest room types.

48. You have no question befriending your neighboring company and residents.

49. You can write a well researched and exact month end report.

50. You know how to fancy flow through.

51. Have a amount two someone who can write back these questions as well.

I task the many boutique hotel fellowships to ask these questions to gm candidates during the interview process. I know that you will save a lot of time, discontentment and lower your turnover rates (higher for normal employer positions in boutique hotels).

If you are a boutique hotel company I would also ask you to make sure that you do the following for your hotel normal managers, ensuring their success and lowering your gm turnover:

1. Don't hire an contact luxury (non-boutique hotel) normal manger unless they can write back yes or positively commit to studying the write back to each of the prior 51 questions.

2. Train, train and train your new gm's on the property they are going to. Make sure they know all before you "turn them loose".

3. Pay them a fair wage, maybe even a bit more than fair. Boutique hotel fellowships seem to think they can attract new gm's who maybe were a amount two at a larger property, convince them that it is "cool" to be a part of your company and pay them less than the commerce standard. This just makes your new gm start listening to those headhunter calls (they call hotel gm's a lot!) with offers of much higher salaries back in the "comfort" zone of a branded hotel.

4. Understand what goes on in the life of a boutique hotel gm. Most boutique hotel corporate staff have never been a gm at a real boutique hotel and have no idea what it is like. Get to know what happens on property.

5. Insist that your gm's take time off. It is easy for your gm to get wrapped up in the doing and start working 7 days a week. This will just burn them out. figure out a way to get them the time with their families they need to stay sane, married etc...

6. Don't call them on their day off unless it is an emergency. If you don't know what days your gm's are off then shame on you.

7. Don't be double minded. Don't show up one day and berate the gm for the pool deck needing re-surfacing and then two days later come down on them for requesting the funds to make property repairs.

8. Give them realistic budgets, and if you sell a bonus during the interview process, make sure it is realistic.

9. Give them the same "perks" that gm's in large hotel properties get. You can skip the car allowance, but at least offer dry cleaning and travel privileges at your other properties.

10. Talk to them often. positively talk to them, don't talk at them. Listen to what is going on.

11. If you tell them that "we are an entrepreneurial company" and that gm's can "make their own decisions" and then second guess every decision they make you need to re-think your message.

12. Make sure you give them the ability to hire a strong #2. One of the reasons your gm's leave for other fellowships is because most boutique hotel fellowships don't give their properties the budgets to have a amount two, so they have nobody to take their place if other in-company opportunities come up. This is the old and very tired "to move up you have to move out" dynamic that kills us in the hotel industry.

13. That takes me to this point---set out to compose bench strength. Have leaders waiting in the wings to take positions as you grow. If you don't you will end up "borrowing" leaders from each of your properties to open your newest. This leaves your existing properties, already running lean on management with an over worked and stressed out group of leaders and staff. Make this a priority.

14. Thank your gm's. This is a no-brainer but a much forgot foremost task as a hotel company. Thank Your Gm's. This goes for any hotel company. Your normal managers get beat up a lot. By unhappy staff, guests and you. You hit them with constant "notes" on how to achieve better. Make sure to equilibrium the coaching with praise.

The point?

So what is the point to all of this? The boutique hotel normal manager, in my belief is a wholly dissimilar job than a normal employer at a full aid luxury property. But unfortunately the two are muddled together in a basket full of un-attainable expectations.

I think that the boutique hotel normal employer should have a new title-- I leave this up to the boutique hotel fellowships and the creative genius that drives their brands.
At the end of the day, a title is positively not important, but the expectations are. Make sure you understand your role as a boutique hotel normal employer or the role your normal managers play at your boutique hotels. Make determined that as you take a job or when hire them, they know what a boutique hotel employer positively is.

Is the American Dream Still Alive?

Lost or just in hiding?
It seems that only yesterday we lived in a sane world. We all knew where we were going as long as we played by the rules. Or at least we notion we did. Obviously, those in payment changed the rules in the middle of the game or decided not to play by them. Now we have to adjust to the same game with many changes ahead and certainly a separate set of rules. I was born in the 1950's, a product of the Korean disagreement and part of the baby boom generation. Many who had been in World War Two and the Korean disagreement were now heading home to get married and start families. The time to come was enchanting for many as we went from the Truman administration, one of the greats, to the Eisenhower administration. This was the starting of the boom in the 50's which took us well into the 60's. There was not a shortage of new inventions to buy and the interest rate environment was low. There was a newness of all things and many of us I am sure did not know that we were as a matter of fact poor. Our house of eight lived in an 1100 quadrilateral foot house. Our standard of living could only improve. Our returning troops men were ready to live the American Dream after the reduce of life and limb on the battle field. Home was where the heart was and they were ready to spend.

Back in the 50's everybody was buying washing machines, stoves, refrigerators, television sets, new cars as well as houses that were now springing up everywhere to take care of the growing buyer demand. It was not unusual to see a brand new Cadillac parked in front of a ,000 home in Texas. Suburbia was taking shape and to many this was the American dream. To own your own home and to have protection from the storm was the new norm. Usually the mum stayed at home while the father was the primary bread winner. Growing up in those times seemed more carefree and new. There was so much to search for as was evident in the Moon landing just 40 years ago. The stress of getting ahead and making a return on your home buy was not even an issue. Taking care of your house and making sure that we were safe and get was more prominent to the parents in the 50's and 60's. The American Dream did not consist of going to college in my house since it was never discussed. There was nothing wrong in being a mechanic or salesman, my father would say.

Who's in charge?
As we headed into the late 60's and 70's we were advent out of someone else conflict, the Vietnam War. Much had changed in the late 60's and once again the American Dream changed. Many did not care to own anything. The Revolution of the late 60's would reshape the mental of young people. We as a matter of fact had violence and riots on American college campuses. America as we knew it was in disarray and we were confused. We were now more rebellious and were not buying into the establishments American Dream. If the American Dream included prominent our young citizen to be killed or to kill many wanted no part of it. Many of the songs of the 60's reflected this attitude. We lost faith in our government as well as we witnessed the demise of President Nixon while Watergate. I did not understand all the ramifications of what was going on while going to college in the 70's as I do now. The mistrust was permeating straight through the American community at a rapid clip. The primary super computer was invented in the 60's by a gentleman working at control Data Corporation. This new engine did not take hold until the 1980's with the general public. Computers were big and clumsy and many who remember had no inkling of what was to come for the exception of a few fantastic minds. At the time owing a computer was a luxury and not a necessity as it is today. The computer would be the new transportation and transfer of information tool of the future. This would make our lives easier like the washing machines of the 50's. Yes, this was part of the American Dream that we had never imagined. Those who risked their fortunes and time in this industry would gain gigantic riches. It was also while this time that the stock markets rose to great heights creating an gigantic whole of wealth for some but not for all. It did not seem that everybody was participating in the American dream. Many did not spend in the markets and were still in bank certificates of deposit since the rates had been so high. The dream had perhaps changed in a blink of an eye. Now it was about keeping up with the house next door. Who ever had the most toys was the winner was the mantra.

What has as a matter of fact changed?
The implosion of this new technology in our lives somehow steered us into forgetting what the American Dream was all about. From the 80's to the present we have concentrated on getting more and more while giving less and less. The internet boom created the dot.com boom which at last led us to the bust in 2000. everybody was more concerned about making more money, having more things and taking good vacations. It was no longer about food, protection and clothing and the security and security of our family, but how much we could make buying or selling real estate, investing in hedge funds or day trading. We had lost our way while being led by those who knew they could pull the wool over our eyes. We have much to blame for losing sight of the American Dream and we need to recapture it once again. The American dream is not to be taken lightly. We must learn to go back to the basics that made this country great, take care of our family, give to those in need and learn to be thankful for what we have. The dream is not lost it has only been derailed for a while. You can make a disagreement and anything you pass on will come back ten fold. Start living the American Dream once again.
